What is a GSA?

GSA Schedules are continuously open contract vehicles administered by the General Services Administration (GSA). Vendors apply to be on a Schedule for one or more 'Special Item Numbers' (SINs); once awarded, they hold a 5-year base contract with three 5-year option periods (20 years total possible).

Federal agencies — and many state and local entities under cooperative-purchasing authority — place task orders or BPAs against Schedule-holder contracts to buy IT, professional services, security, scientific equipment, and almost every other commercial category.

Who typically uses these

  • Any federal civilian or DoD agency for commercial commodities and services.
  • Many state, local, and tribal governments via GSA's Cooperative Purchasing program (Schedule 70 IT, security, and disaster-recovery items).

Common questions about GSAs

Is FSS the same as MAS?
Yes. GSA consolidated 24 legacy Schedules into the single 'Multiple Award Schedule' (MAS) in 2019. Federal Supply Schedule (FSS), GSA Schedule, MAS, and Schedule contract all refer to the same family of vehicles.
How often do GSA Schedules recompete?
Schedules themselves don't recompete — once awarded, a vendor's MAS contract can run up to 20 years. However, individual task orders and BPAs under the Schedule have their own period of performance, and those DO recompete. Filter by 'Expiring' to see which BPAs/orders are coming up.
How do I become a GSA Schedule holder?
Apply through GSA's eOffer portal. You'll need: 2 years in business (waivable for some SINs), $25K in projected sales, audited financials, pricing data, and detailed product/service offerings. Once on the Schedule, agencies can buy from you directly.
