Why do other sources report different numbers for CoreCivic?
- Ceilings are not spending. News reports often quote a contract's ceiling, the most the government could ever order. This page counts only money actually obligated.
- Other Transaction agreements are not included. Prototype deals signed as Other Transaction agreements are kept out of USAspending, so they are missing here. Defense technology firms use them often.
- Classified work and subcontracts are not included. Classified awards are not published, and money a company earns as a subcontractor is credited to the prime contractor.
- Recent months are still arriving. The Defense Department reports contract actions after a 90-day delay, so the latest fiscal year grows for a few months after it ends.
- Which legal entities count. We count the entities listed below and any subsidiary USAspending files under them. Revenue reported in company filings also includes commercial and state work.
How this figure is counted
We ask USAspending for every prime contract transaction, from October 1, 2007 (the earliest date its search covers) to September 30, 2026, where the recipient or its parent is one of these registrations: HJGMJN1JKL46 (CORECIVIC, INC.). Each transaction counts once, even when a subsidiary and its parent are both listed. Before a number is published, the yearly figures must add up to the agency figures, and the last three fiscal years must match USAspending's own recipient profile.
